PENTECOST SUNDAY~MAY 27:  Please mark your calendars!!! Apostles will have only one service on May 27.  Service time will be 9:00 a.m.  There will be no Sunday School or Children's Church on this day.

THE DAY OF PENTECOST:  Join Pastor John, area pastors, and Christians from across the spectrum as together we celebrate our unity in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Just as it happened on the Day of Pentecost, the body of Christ in Hampton Roads is gathering in the "public square" to celebrate together.  A joint choir is being assembled and Pastor John has been invited to speak at this event.  Please join us May 27 @ 2:30 p.m. at 193 Central Prak Avenue, The Town Center in Va. Beach.   

OFFICE CLOSING:  The Church office will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day.  We will re-open at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

COLLEGE GRADUATES:  The Weaver Small Group is sponsoring coffee hour on May20th to honor the  college graduates from Apostles.  We want to list the young adults graduating this year in the Sunday bulletin.  Please call (547-4692) or e-mail (office@apostles-lutheran.org) the church office with the name of the graduate and college name by Tuesday, May 15th.  Come celebrate their achievement!! 

NO CHILDREN’S CHOIR PRACTICE ~ MAY 13:  There will be no Children’s Choir Practice next Sunday, May 13 in honor of Mother’s Day.  Please mark your calendars!! 

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO "SERVE THE CITY" 2012:          If you would like to be a part of Serve the City 2012, please sign up right away.  Volunteer forms are available in the church fellowship hall or on-line at www.apostles-lutheran.org under the "Ministries" tab.

LIFE LINE SCREENING COMING IN JULY:  Apostles is teaming up with Life Line Screening to help prevent cardiovascular disease.  Life Line Screening is the leading provider of community-based preventive health screening in the U.S.  The screening will be offered on Friday, July 13.  Pre-registration is required by calling 757-880-1948.  For more information, email Lonette Woods at lonette.woods@llsa.com.  Those who pre-register will receive $10 off and Apostles will receive a $10 donation.  So register right away!

BABYLON:  DANIEL'S COURAGE IN CAPTIVITY:  Mark your calendars for an exciting time visiting Daniel in Babylon.  We will begin our journey on Sunday, July 22, 2012.  Hope to see you there!!!  And remember, the WHOLE family is invited! 

IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO CHRISTMAS SHOP:  May’s items are: BALL CAPS, BANDANAS, AND MAKE-UP KITS (NO LIQUID, please)!  Last month’s items were: Sewing kits, tools, work gloves & bead kits.  If you cannot or would rather not shop, donations are ALWAYS accepted!!!  We will have a “packing party” in late November to use the above items, or you can still pack your own box at that time.

UNION MISSION SANDWICH MEAL:  Thursday, May 24 is our next Union Mission Sandwich Meal.  If you have not been a part of this ministry, we urge you to give it a try.  Anyone that has served has not regretted doing so.  Its wonderful how serving others is an act on your part and God turns it into a blessing back to you.  Thank you and God Bless, Bonnie.

NAMI FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS: Beginning on Wednesday, September 6, 2011, support group meetings for family members of individuals who live with mental illness will be held every other Wednesday in the Annex at Apostles.  They will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end promptly at 8:00 p.m.  The facilitators for the group have been trained specifically to lead NAMI sponsored support groups and are the parents of a son who has bipolar disorder with psychotic features.  The group is offered free of charge and all family members and friends are welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact Paul or MayLou Taylor at 421-2597.  Remember, you don’t have to do this alone!

COFFEE:  7-8 A.M AT THE CHURCH.  Come for coffee, fellowship, a chance to talk about what is going on in our lives.  We're looking at strategies to help us deal with different stages in men's lives -- How are YOU doing?  Want some ideas for handling all you've got to do?  Join us!  All men are welcome.  We meet EVERY Saturday.
