ASH WEDNESDAY INFORMATION - February 22, 2012

6:30 - 8:30 A.M.  Distribution of Ashes in Sanctuary

7:00 P.M.  Service at Apostles Lutheran Church

USHERS NEEDED:  We have a need for a few more ushers during the 11:15 service.  Please contact Ben Stoline at (757)421-2531 or bentracy1@cox.net if you would like to serve Apostles as an Usher.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD!  ITS NEVER TOO EARLY TO CHRISTMAS SHOP -  This month’s items are: COMBS, BRUSHES AND MISCELLANEOUS HAIR ACCESSORIES.  Please see Linda Ifko or Carrie Johnston if you have questions or would like to make a donation instead of shopping for the listed items.

UNION MISSION SANDWICH MEAL:  Thursday, February 16 is our next Union Mission Sandwich Meal.  If you have not been a part of this ministry, we urge you to give it a try.  Anyone that has served has not regretted doing so.  Its wonderful how serving others is an act on your part and God turns it into a blessing back to you.  Thank you and God Bless, Bonnie.

WE'RE ACCEPTING THE CHALLENGE:  Please join Peace Quilters on Saturday, March 10 from 9-12 p.m.  We are making pillowcases for the "ONE MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE".  The pillowcases will be donated locally to nursing homes, hospice programs, children's hospitals, and disaster relief programs.  Needed:  Women who can sew, pin and iron.  No experience necessary; WE WILL TRAIN!  For more information please see our display in the Narthex at Apostles.  For answers to other questions, please see Susan Weaver or Carrie Johnston.

NAMI FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS: Beginning on Wednesday, September 6, 2011, support group meetings for family members of individuals who live with mental illness will be held every other Wednesday in the Annex at Apostles.  They will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end promptly at 8:00 p.m.  The facilitators for the group have been trained specifically to lead NAMI sponsored support groups and are the parents of a son who has bipolar disorder with psychotic features.  The group is offered free of charge and all family members and friends are welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact Paul or MayLou Taylor at 421-2597.  Remember, you don’t have to do this alone!

ALTAR FLOWERS:  Please take note that the cost for Altar Flowers has increased this year from $40 to $45.  Please continue to make your checks payable to Apostles Lutheran and place them in the Offering Plate.  Thank you and God Bless!

LASERQUEST:  "PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD..."  EPHESIANS 6:11  The Apostles' Youth Group will be taking a trip to LASERQUEST in Virginia Beach.  The tentative date is during spring break, April 13.  All senior high and middle school students are welcome to sign-up.  Elementary aged school children may attend with a parent or other adult.  Food, transportation and some admission fees will be provided.  Students are encouraged to invite a friend as this is a Fellowship Event.  More details will follow.  Sign-up in the Fellowship Hall.  Please contact Wally Connolly at 549-9780 or Ben Stoline at 421-2531.  Thank you.

TUESDAY MORNING LADIES GROUP: You are invited to seek a closer walk with the Lord and to grow in love towards each other.  There are two women's groups that meet on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m.  If you have questions, please contact Linda Ifko at 547-8856.  Childcare is available upon request.

THURSDAY EVENING LADIES GROUP:  Thursday Night Ladies' Bible Study meets from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. every Thursday evening in the classroom by the bathrooms.  Current Study is Covenant by Kay Arthur.  Call Tracy Stoline with any questions at 421-2531.  Childcare is available upon request.

God has great plans for each and EVERY man!  We're called to be leaders in our homes - and that's not easy to do!  We're learning together how to do that during our .... SATURDAY A.M. COFFEE:  7-8 A.M AT THE CHURCH.  Come for coffee, fellowship, a chance to talk about what is going on in our lives.  We're looking at strategies to help us deal with different stages in men's lives -- How are YOU doing?  Want some ideas for handling all you've got to do?  Join us!  All men are welcome.  We meet EVERY Saturday.
